Due to funding cutbacks, the 6th Annual Langley Jazz Festival has been put on hold till 2011. However, we managed to get a small amount of sponsorship money and instead of letting the festival die, we decided to make it happen anyway with whatever little we have. Unlike previous years where we had multiple stages and couple dozen bands, this year, the event, called 'Spirit of Jazz 2010,' will take place on the Spirit Square in Douglas Park (downtown Langley). Our theme is a progression through Jazz history with five fantastic bands performing from noon till 8:00pm for your listening and dancing pleasure. We'll start the day off with vintage Jazz featuring bands that specialize in music of the early 1900's. As the day progresses, we'll be making a transition to Big Band music of the 1940's. Though small, we are not in any way compromising the quality of the live music. These bands will mess you up! That being said, we hope you'll join us as we celebrate another year of FREE live Jazz right here in our community. Swingingly, The Organizing Committee P.S. We are also providing a 400 square foot, hardwood sprung dance floor for all to enjoy. Here's your 2010 'Spirit of Jazz' schedule . . . 12:00pm - 1:00pm: Swing Patrol (Dixieland) 1:30pm - 2:30pm: Creole Jazz Band (Charleston, Vintage Jazz) 3:00pm - 4:00pm: Inline 6 (Hot Jazz) 4:30pm - 5:30pm: The Other Big Band (Big Band) 6:00pm - 8:00pm: Alexander Brown & the Aristocrats of Swing (Two hour Big Band finale) |
